With the divine blessings of my revered Guru, Pujya Swami Avdheshanand Giri Ji Maharaj, and by the infinite grace of Lord Shri Narayana, I humbly begin this sacred journey of writing this book.
This book is an attempt to guide readers toward a deeper spiritual understanding. Within these pages, you will find thoughtful answers to many of the questions that are often raised about Sanatan Dharma.
The stories narrated in our sacred scriptures have been passed down through generations. But have you ever paused to ask yourself—are they merely stories?
The answer is no.
Behind every narrative lies a profound spiritual truth, a deeper reality waiting to be understood. What appears to be a simple story on the surface often carries timeless wisdom, hidden meanings, and divine insights that reveal themselves only to those who seek with sincerity.
Behind every story found in our sacred scriptures lies a profound spiritual lesson. The great sages and seers of Sanatan Dharma did not compose these scriptures without purpose. Every word they wrote carries deep wisdom, guiding humanity toward truth and self-realization.
What was it that these enlightened sages truly wished to convey? What deeper mysteries are hidden behind these timeless narratives?
Over time, many people have remained confined to the literal words of these scriptures and stories, without exploring their deeper spiritual essence. The true sattvic and philosophical meaning hidden behind those words has rarely been contemplated with sincerity.
Even today, when these deeper meanings are explained, many find them difficult to accept, as they remain attached only to the surface interpretation rather than the profound truth that lies beneath.
There are countless questions that have been raised about Sanatan Dharma over the years. For example:
* Is the Earth really resting upon Sheshnag?
* How was Lord Ganesha born from Goddess Parvati's divine essence?
* Why do the scriptures mention thirty-three crore deities?
* How ancient is Sanatan Dharma?
* If Sanatan Dharma is truly eternal and so ancient, why do its scriptures not explicitly describe creatures such as dinosaurs?
Similarly, many questions are raised about the great epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. If Lord Rama was an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, why did He not know from the very beginning that Ravana's nectar of immortality was hidden in his navel? If Lord Rama was truly God, why did He separate from Goddess Sita?
These are only a few among the many questions that continue to arise.
With the grace of Lord Hari, I shall sincerely attempt to present thoughtful and spiritually grounded answers to these questions throughout this book.
The truth is that Bharat has endured centuries of foreign rule—at different times under the Mughal Empire and later under various European colonial powers. Throughout these periods, countless invasions and political upheavals affected our cultural, educational, and spiritual heritage. Many invaluable scriptures, libraries, and centers of learning were destroyed or lost, including renowned institutions such as Nalanda University.
After enduring so much, one cannot help but wonder how far Bharat's journey of knowledge and spiritual advancement was disrupted. Had these invasions and periods of destruction not taken place, perhaps Bharat could have progressed even further in the fields of knowledge, education, and spirituality, and might have stood among the foremost civilizations of the world.
Foreign invasions and political changes caused great damage to many of India's ancient traditions, sacred texts, and centers of learning. Yet, despite all these challenges, the timeless principles and core teachings of the Sanatan tradition have remained alive and continue to guide humanity even today.
Despite everything that has happened throughout history, truth never loses its essence. Time may test it, but truth remains eternal. Whether it concerns moral values or the path of Dharma, in the end, truth alone prevails.
There is one more important point to understand. Every individual has his or her own way of understanding God and Dharma. Merely reading sacred scriptures does not lead to the direct realization of the Divine. Scriptures illuminate the path, but true realization comes through spiritual practice, unwavering faith, devotion, and inner experience.
The wisdom preserved in our scriptures is not imagination—it is the spiritual experience and divine realization of the great sages and enlightened seers.
If a person truly wishes to know God, one must cultivate sincere faith, complete surrender, unwavering devotion, spiritual wisdom, and acceptance of the Supreme Reality. Throughout history, countless devotees such as Mirabai, Tulsidas, Kabir Das, Raskhan, and many others attained the Divine through the power of pure love and devotion.
However, in this age of Kali Yuga, many people have gradually drifted away from the remembrance and contemplation of the Lord. Compared to earlier times, materialism and skepticism have become far more prominent.
It is often seen that atheists ask spiritual seekers, "Where is your God? Have you ever seen Him? And if you have, then show Him to us as well."
Now, this leads us to a thought worth reflecting upon. If a true believer has genuinely experienced the presence of God, would such a person ever go around proclaiming that experience to the world? The answer is no.
Many atheists assume that people of faith have no answers to their questions. Yet the truth is quite the opposite. A sincere spiritual seeker rarely speaks about his or her inner spiritual journey. Even if one is blessed with the direct experience of the Divine, such an experience is never displayed before others.
A true seeker never turns spiritual realization into a matter of pride or ego. Such experiences are regarded as sacred and deeply personal.
For this very reason, a genuine believer often refrains from engaging in endless arguments or debates. With time, such a person realizes that those who ask questions merely for the sake of argument cannot be satisfied by answers alone. Their doubts do not arise from a sincere desire to understand, but from a desire to debate.
Therefore, a true spiritual seeker chooses not to waste precious time in meaningless disputes, but instead remains devoted to the path of inner realization, devotion, and self-discovery.
So, let us now begin this journey of exploring the answers to the many questions that are raised about Sanatan Dharma.
With the grace of Lord Hari, I shall sincerely strive to present these answers in a manner that is accurate, simple, pure, truthful, spiritual, and, wherever possible, supported by reason and logic.
Hari Om. 🙏
